Counselling, Play Therapy, Clinical Supervisor in Soham, Ely, Newmarket and Cambridge

Counselling, Play Therapy, and Clinical Supervision for Soham, Ely, Mildenhall, Newmarket and Cambridge from a BACP registered, and accredited counsellor.

I am based in Soham and I work with children and adults with issues, such as, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, relationship issues (couples work), surviving child abuse.

Modern play therapy is based on the observation that a child made insecure by a secret hate or fear of the natural protectors of his play in the family and neighbourhood seems able to use the protective sanction of an understanding adult to regain some play peace. Grandmothers and favourite aunts may have played that role in the past; its professional elaboration of today is the play therapist. The most obvious condition is that the child has the toys and adult for himself, and that sibling rivalry, parental nagging, or any kind of sudden interruption does not disturb the unfolding of his play intentions. - Erik Eriksen

Does life feel like its getting on top of you?

Could you benefit from a place to take some time-out and explore your thoughts and feelings and get back on track with your life?

My name is Heather Burkinshaw and I have been a practising counsellor in Soham, near Ely for the past 10 years. I am committed to providing counselling / psychotherapy, play therapy for children in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

I work with individuals (children, adults and senior citizens) and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully. I tailor my sessions to the client so that they feel both heard and supported. For children I work with metaphor, using creative arts, such as sand tray, paints, play doh, for such issues as divorced parents, bullying, anxiety, depression and anger. It is common for behaviour to get worse, before there is improvement.

I am experienced in helping adult clients who have experienced difficulties with :

  • Depression
  • Addiction
  • Bereavement
